:  an infectious often epidemic disease that is caused by adenoviruses of the genus Mastadenovirus (especially serotypes of species Human adenovirus B and Human adenovirus D) and is marked by pain, by redness and swelling of the conjunctiva, by edema of the tissues around the eye, and by tenderness of the adjacent lymph nodes
